{{ Introduction here }}
At Mesa, equity is a student-centered approach to fostering a culture of success for historically marginalized students. In our roles as faculty members, student services practitioners, staff, and administrators, we pursue equity through principles of inquiry and data-informed decision making. We will achieve equity when we see parity in outcomes across racial/ethnic groups and all disproportionately impacted groups within higher education. We work within integrated and equity-minded systems to ensure that everyone has what they need to succeed during their time at Mesa College.
Following our most recent ACCJC team visit in 2017, Mesa's accreditation has been reaffirmed through 2024. During the reaffirmation process, the College received commendations for the following. Equity Diversity Our committed tutoring services, employees, and collaborative team-oriented environments Our commitment to the ongoing professional learning of all employees Our leadership for instilling a student-centered culture across the campus Our student-centered approaches utilizing technology resources Our development of operational data reports and survey results that facilitate data-informed dialogue and decision-making. {{ Include Program Review }}
The Educational Master Plan Steering Committee will guide the review and college-wide vetting of the plan, to include the analysis of data and discussion of key findings and recommendations. The recommendations will be presented to the Planning and Institutional Effectiveness Committee, and ultimately submitted to President's Cabinet.
In 2018, Mesa College offered 13 stipends of $5,000 to Mesa students majoring or interested in STEM, in addition to offering all-expense paid STEM career field trips for 35 students. The San Diego Mesa College STEM Community Scholars Program was designed to increase the number of students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. This was achieved by providing financial aid, guiding students to support services, establishing connections with the STEM workforce, and fostering a community of STEM scholars. Through this intitative, students attended field trips to the Tijuana River Estuary, Cleveland National Forest, HTCC Conference, Solar Turbines, and more.
AB 705 was written to clarify existing regulation and
ensure that students are not placed into remedial courses
that may delay or deter their educational progress unless
evidence suggests they are highly unlikely to succeed in
the college-level course. Assessment instruments and
placement policies have serious implications for equity,
as students of color are far more likely to be placed into
remedial courses; students placed into remediation are
much less likely to reach their educational goals.
