Nosotros somos San Diego Mesa Community College.
Here at Mesa, it is our mission to empower our diverse student body so that they may reach their educational goals and shape the future. Perched on top of the Clairemont Mesa and adjacent to Tecolote Canyon Natural Park, we are one of the largest community colleges in California, and the largest in the City of San Diego with a student population of approximately 30,000. We are committed to being the Leading College of Equity and Excellence and are proud to be formally designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the United States Department of Education. Being an HSI means we are a reflection of our exceptional students, their cultures, values, and life experiences. With Latinx, Chicanx, and Hispanic students making up over 38% of the student body, we strive each and every day to promote student success at every level to support them in reaching their educational goals.
Within San Diego County, the Latinx community makes up 33.9% of the population and continues to grow at a rapid rate. Approximately 23.6% of the county’s population are immigrants and with 68 different languages being spoken throughout the area, we are a magnificent cultivation of ethnic diversity. Because of this, it is our duty as an equitable, diverse, and inclusive institution to uphold the colorful mix of culture that makes up Mesa’s lifeblood. Recognizing all of these different cultures that exist in our students facilitates a greater understanding of the unique abilities and adversities that each one of them has, from representation in pedagogy to more efficacious services.
As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, we embrace familia – and celebrate the rich histories rooted in Latinx identity.
